APHIS Expands Cold Treatment Pilot Project in Florida

The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service reports that starting Oct. 1 the Florida ports of Jacksonville, Tampa and Manatee will be approved to participate in the Cold Treatment Pilot Project, which includes the following cold-treated commodities.

- citrus, blueberries and grapes from Peru

- blueberries and grapes from Uruguay

- blueberries, apples and pears from Argentina (this applies to commodities originating in areas in Argentina that are not recognized as fruit fly free and require cold treatment)

APHIS states that containers that do not pass cold treatment requirements will be prohibited from entering the port and will not be offloaded from vessels.
