Commodity jurisdiction requests are used to determine if exports of particular goods or services are regulated by the Department of Commerce (generally dual-use items covered by the Export Administration Regulations) or the State Department (generally defense-related goods, technology, and software covered by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations). If the item is subject to the EAR, you have several options for determining its proper Export Control Classification Number on the Commerce Control List, including requesting an official classification from the DOC.
