Imports of textiles and apparel in September fell by nearly 10 percent, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall Imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 8.30 billion square meter equivalents in September 2021, down 9.7 percent from August 2021 but up 19.6 percent from September 2020. Textile imports totaled 5.42 billion SME, down 14.7 percent for the month but up 21.0 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.88 billion SME were up 1.4 percent from August and 17.1 percent from a year before.
Total year-to-date imports were 67.4 billion SME, up 43.1 percent from the previous year, as textile imports jumped 50.8 percent to 45.8 billion SME and apparel imports rose 29.1 percent to 21.6 billion SME.
For the year ending in September, total imports were 87.9 billion SME, up 38.0 percent from the previous year. Textile imports rose 46.6 percent to 59.9 billion SME and apparel imports gained 22.5 percent to 28.0 billion SME.
