Imports of textiles and apparel decreased from April to May, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 8.02 billion square meter equivalents in May, down 3.6 percent from April and 3.2 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports totaled 6.32 billion SME, down 0.6 percent from a month earlier and 0.1 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 1.70 billion SME were down 13.7 percent for the month and 13.2 percent from a year before.

For the year to date, total imports were up 6.6 percent from a year earlier to 40.9 billion SME, with textile imports up 7.1 percent to 30.8 million SME and apparel imports up 5.1 percent to 10.1 million SME.

For the year ending in May 2025, total imports were up 15.3 percent compared to a year earlier, to 109.1 billion SME. Textile imports rose 18.0 percent to 82.9 billion SME while apparel imports were up 7.7 percent to 26.2 billion SME.
