The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements has received a short supply request alleging that certain double-weave polyester/spandex fabric is not available in commercial quantities in a timely manner from potential suppliers in the CAFTA-DR region.
The fabric at issue is a 88-92 percent polyester and 8-12 percent spandex. It is classified under HTSUS 5407.52.2040 and 5407.72.0015.
The petitioner is requesting that this fabric be added to the short supply list in Annex 3.25 of CAFTA-DR in unrestricted quantities, which would allow duty-free imports of apparel made in CAFTA-DR countries with this fabric regardless of where it is sourced. Responses with an offer to supply this fabric are due no later than May 26.
If your company is interested in exploring a short supply petition under any U.S. trade agreement, please contact textile and apparel practice leader Elise Shibles at (415) 490-1403 or via email.
