Background

Hong Kong. The HKETO Certification Act (introduced Jan. 15 by Sens. Merkley, D-Ore., and Sullivan, R-Alaska) would require the president to remove the extension of certain privileges, exemptions, and immunities to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices if the State Department determines that Hong Kong no longer enjoys a high degree of autonomy from China.

Shipping. The Defending American Property Abroad Act (H.R. 7084, introduced Jan. 15 by Rep. Pfluger, R-Texas) would amend 46 USC with respect to the types of vessels that may enter or operate in U.S. navigable waters or transfer cargo in any port or place under the jurisdiction of the U.S.

Imports. The Ending Importation of Laundered Russian Oil Act (H.R. 7095, introduced Jan. 15 by Rep. Doggett, D-Texas) would provide for a prohibition on the importation of energy products produced at refineries outside Russia from Russian oil.

Exports. The Protecting American Energy Security Act (H.R. 7061, introduced Jan. 14 by Rep. Elfreth, D-Md.) would require a certification issued by the Department of Energy to be in effect to export natural gas to a covered nation.

Food. The Ensuring Consistency in Nutrition Labels Act (H.R. 7122, introduced Jan. 15 by Reps. Steube, R-Fla., and Soto, D-Fla.) would specify that a food shall be considered misbranded if the value of nutrients on its labeling deviates by more than five percent from the value specified on such labeling.

Conflict minerals. H.R. 7085 (introduced Jan. 15 by Rep. Huizenga, R-Mich.) would repeal certain disclosure requirements related to conflict minerals.
