Imports of textiles and apparel rose 7.3 percent in October after a decline of nearly 10 percent in September, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall Imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 8.91 billion square meter equivalents in October 2021, up 7.3 percent from September 2021 and 19.5 percent from October 2020. Textile imports totaled 6.06 billion SME, up 11.8 percent for the month and 22.6 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.86 billion SME were down 0.7 percent from September but up 13.6 percent from a year before.
Total year-to-date imports were 76.3 billion SME, up 39.9 percent from the previous year, as textile imports jumped 46.9 percent to 51.8 billion SME and apparel imports rose 27.1 percent to 24.5 billion SME.
For the year ending in October, total imports were 89.4 billion SME, up 37.6 percent from the previous year. Textile imports rose 45.4 percent to 61.1 billion SME and apparel imports gained 23.3 percent to 28.3 billion SME.
