Imports of textiles and apparel fell 6.1 percent from December to January after an 8.6 percent drop the previous month, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 8.57 billion square meter equivalents in January, down 6.1 percent from December but up 27.9 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports totaled 6.22 billion SME, down 12.1 percent from a month earlier but up 31.9 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.35 billion SME were up 14.6 percent for the month and 18.5 percent from a year before.
For the year ending in January 2025, total imports were up 17.4 percent compared to a year earlier, to 108.5 billion SME. Textile imports rose 20.6 percent to 82.4 billion SME while apparel imports were up 8.2 percent to 26.1 billion SME.
