Imports of textiles and apparel fell in February but were still up significantly from a year before, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall Imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 8.09 billion square meter equivalents in February 2022, down 6.0 percent from January but up 39.4 percent from February 2021. Textile imports totaled 6.0 billion SME, down 8.8 percent for the month but up 46.3 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.63 billion SME were up 0.8 percent from January and 27.0 percent from a year before.
Total year-to-date imports were 16.7 billion SME, up 38.9 percent from the previous year, as textile imports jumped 46.6 percent to 11.5 billion SME and apparel imports rose 24.7 percent to 5.24 billion SME.
Total imports for the year ending in February 2022 were 99.0 billion SME, up 43.7 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports gained 49.3 percent to 68.5 billion SME while apparel imports rose 32.5 percent to 30.5 billion SME.
