The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements has received a short supply request alleging that certain cashmere yarn is not available in commercial quantities in a timely manner from potential suppliers in the U.S. or Peru.
The yarn at issue is a carded cashmere yarn made of 100 percent grade A Mongolian cashmere. It is classified under HTSUS 5108.10.8000.
The petitioner is requesting that this yarn be added to the short supply list in Annex 3-B of the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement in unrestricted quantities, which would allow duty-free imports of apparel made in Peru with this yarn regardless of where it is sourced. Responses with an offer to supply this yarn are due no later than Jan. 28.
If your company is interested in exploring a short supply petition under any U.S. trade agreement, please contact textile and apparel practice leader Elise Shibles at (415) 490-1403 or via email.
