The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements has received a short supply request alleging that certain dobby weave fabric is not available in commercial quantities in a timely manner from potential suppliers in the CAFTA-DR region.
The fabric at issue is a dobby weave made on a triple beam air jet loom that is used in the production of high-quality sports uniforms. It is made of 78-88 percent polyester and 12-22 percent nylon and classified under HTSUS 5407.73.2015, 5407.73.2060, 5407.53.2020, and 5407.53.2060.
The petitioner is requesting that this fabric be added to the short supply list in Annex 3.25 of CAFTA-DR in unrestricted quantities, which would allow duty-free imports of apparel made in CAFTA-DR countries with this fabric regardless of where it is sourced. Responses with an offer to supply this fabric are due no later than June 10.
If your company is interested in exploring a short supply petition under any U.S. trade agreement, please contact textile and apparel practice leader Elise Shibles at (415) 490-1403 or via email.
