The Prototype Provision is a classification within Chapter 98 (9817.85.01) of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S. that allows for the reduction of duty on most imports of originals or models of articles used exclusively for development, testing, product evaluation, or quality control purposes. Proper use of this provision can be a useful tool for importers looking to reduce duties.
