Imports of textiles and apparel jumped nearly 20 percent in July, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 9.98 billion square meter equivalents in June, up 19.4 percent from June and 11.1 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports totaled 7.42 billion SME, up 17.2 percent for the month and 12.5 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.56 billion SME were up 26.1 percent from June and 7.1 percent from a year before.
Imports of textiles and apparel were 56.7 billion SME for the year to date in July, up 5.7 percent from the previous year. Textile imports were 42.5 billion SME, up 7.2 percent, while apparel imports totaled 14.2 billion SME, up 1.4 percent.
For the year ending in July 2024, total imports were up 3.5 percent compared to a year earlier, to 95.6 billion SME. Textile imports rose 6.5 percent to 71.1 billion SME while apparel imports fell 4.2 percent to 24.5 billion SME.
