Background

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has extended through June 9, 2027, the import restrictions on certain categories of archaeological and ethnological material originating in Peru.

These restrictions cover archaeological material ranging in date from approximately 12,000 B.C. to A.D. 1532, including categories of textiles, metals, ceramics, lithics, perishable remains, and human remains, as well as certain categories of ethnological material dating to the Colonial period (A.D. 1532-1821), including objects directly related to the pre-Columbian past (including categories of textiles, metals, wood, ceramic, and stone), objects used for religious evangelism among indigenous peoples (including sculpture, paintings, and liturgical objects), and Colonial manuscripts and documents.

CBP is also amending the list of items covered by these restrictions to (1) add certain categories of ethnological material and (2) clarify the descriptions of covered pre-Columbian pottery and textile styles, ecclesiastical objects, and prints.

The designated list of goods covered by these import restrictions can be found here.
