Background

Exports to China

The Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service reports that China removed quarantine access requirements for frozen fruit imports in August. This change allows frozen fruit imports from any country and is expected to facilitate the entry of additional U.S. frozen fruit products, such as mixed frozen berries and frozen raspberries. U.S. exports were previously limited to frozen strawberries, cherries, blueberries, and cranberries.

FAS notes that overseas frozen fruit manufacturers, processors, and storage facilities must still register in the China Import Food Enterprises Registration system before exporting such goods to China.

Beet Imports

Effective Sept. 27 the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services has authorized the importation of fresh table beet root from the United Kingdom into the continental U.S., Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands for consumption. Such imports will be subject to specified phytosanitary measures.
