CTPAT. President Biden signed into law Oct. 2 S. 794, which will create a pilot program allowing up to 20 non-asset-based third-party logistics providers to become certified in the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism.

Canada. Six lawmakers wrote to senior Biden administration officials Sept. 30 urging them to work with the government of Canada to “quickly resolve” U.S. concerns about Ottawa’s decision to “move forward with implementing a retroactive and discriminatory digital services tax that threatens to harm American workers and companies.” The letter also encouraged the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to “continue reviewing all available options” for responding to this DST, including the potential of Section 301 tariffs on imports of Canadian goods.
