China. The True Reciprocity Act (S. 3040, introduced Oct. 16 by Sen. Sullivan, R-Alaska) would establish the principle of reciprocity in the relationship between the U.S. and China. Among other things this bill would make it U.S. policy that any negotiations on trade restrictions or investment with respect to China should be concluded in a manner that addresses non-reciprocal arrangements between the two countries.
CBP. The Border Enforcement, Security, and Trade Facilitation Act (H.R. 5990, introduced Oct. 19 by Rep. Ciscomani, R-Ariz.) aims to expedite screenings at ports of entry by creating a new “image technician” position within U.S. Customs and Border Protection to assess scans of cargo and determine whether further inspection is necessary.
Imports. The Preempting Misguided Appeasement and Financing of Destabilizing Regimes Act (S. 3053, introduced Oct. 17 by Sen. Rubio, R-Fla.) would prohibit the importation of crude oil, petroleum, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas from Venezuela and Iran.
