Background

The Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service reports that Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs recently announced that most imported food and beverage products will not need halal certification until Oct. 17, 2028. FAS states that this extension effectively continues the status quo, whereby only meat and dairy products must be certified halal. Indonesia will also (1) revoke the requirement for halal pre-shipment inspections and (2) delay its halal logistics requirements, which are not yet finalized, until Oct. 17, 2028.
