The Drug Enforcement Administration has issued a final rule that, effective Oct. 25, permanently places the opioids butonitazene, flunitazene, and metodesnitazene (including their isomers, esters, ethers, salts, and salts of isomers, esters, and ethers) in schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. This rule continues to impose the regulatory controls and the administrative, civil, and criminal sanctions applicable to schedule I substances on the importation, exportation, manufacture, distribution, reverse distribution, possession, and research of, and conduct of instructional activities or chemical analysis with, these substances.
