Background

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has lifted import restrictions on disposable gloves produced by the Brightway Group in Malaysia (which consists of Brightway Holdings Sdh Bhd., Laglove (M) Sdn, and Biopro (M) Sdn Bhd).

In December 2021 CBP issued a withhold release order against imports of such gloves based on evidence reasonably indicating that the working conditions at Brightway Group exposed workers to 10 of the 11 International Labor Organization indicators of forced labor. Since that time, CBP states, the company has taken actions to fully remediate those indicators within its manufacturing process.

As a result, effective Oct. 11 CBP will allow imports of disposable gloves produced by the Brightway Group to enter the U.S. provided they are otherwise in compliance with U.S. laws.
