Background

The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is proposing to lower from 4 ºC to 2 ºC the minimum maturation temperature for fresh (chilled or frozen) boneless beef and ovine meat from certain listed regions or countries affected with foot-and-mouth disease. Comments on this proposal are due no later than Dec. 21. APHIS states that all other existing mitigations for the importation of beef from regions or countries affected with FMD would remain unchanged.
