Background

The Coast Guard has announced the availability of an online information center where the public can review information, materials, and upcoming public engagements related to an ongoing study of shipping routes along the West Coast.

The Pacific Coast Port Access Route Study is examining existing shipping routes and waterway uses to evaluate safe access routes for the movement of vessel traffic proceeding to or from ports or places along the western seaboard. This study may result in recommendations for the establishment of one or more new vessel routing measures, modifications of existing routing measures, or disestablishment of existing routing measures off the Pacific coast along Washington, Oregon, and California. It will also help determine whether to establish a shipping safety fairway, which would keep any designated area free of fixed structures.
