Vietnam. “Vietnam and the United States have started a second round of trade negotiations in Washington, the Vietnamese government said on Tuesday as it seeks a deal to avoid a threatened 46% tariff rate that could weaken its export-driven growth model. The second round of formal talks for a bilateral trade deal began on Monday and will run until May 22, the trade ministry said in a statement. The first round of talks was held earlier this month.”

Japan. “Japan's top trade negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, said on Tuesday there was no change to Tokyo's stance of demanding an elimination of U.S. tariffs in bilateral trade negotiations. Tokyo will not rush into clinching a trade deal if doing so risked hurting the country's interests, he said.”

EU. “When it comes to trade, the EU is confident its size gives it an advantage. One of the world's top three economies, the bloc won't be pushed around and wants a better deal with Washington than the trade agreement struck by Britain, senior EU officials say.”

South Korea. “A South Korean delegation led by senior ministry official Jang Sung-gil will visit Washington for talks slated to run from Tuesday through Thursday, the Trade Ministry said. United Kingdom. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has made available the text of the agreement in principle that will serve as the basis for trade negotiations between the U.S. and the U.K. USTR said this agreement “lays the groundwork to reduce tariffs on U.S. products, remove discriminatory trade barriers for U.S. agricultural and industrial goods in the United Kingdom, give U.S. producers reciprocal market access, negotiate strong digital trade provisions, and achieve economic security alignment.”
