Background

The Drug Enforcement Administration has issued a temporary order placing the novel psychoactive substance bromazolam (8-bromo-1-methyl-6-phenyl-4H-benzo[f][1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a][l ,4]diazepine), including its salts, isomers, and salts of isomers whenever the existence of such is possible, into schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. This order is effective from March 16, 2026, until March 16, 2028.

This order imposes the regulatory controls and administrative, civil, and criminal sanctions applicable to schedule I controlled substances on persons who handle (import, export, manufacture, distribute, reverse distribute, engage in research, conduct instructional activities or chemical analysis with, or possess) or propose to handle this substance.
