Imports of textiles and apparel saw a small decrease in January but were still up significantly from a year before, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall Imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 8.61 billion square meter equivalents in January 2022, down 4.3 percent from December 2021 but up 38.5 percent from January 2021. Textile imports totaled 6.0 billion SME, down 7.6 percent for the month but up 46.9 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.61 billion SME were up 4.0 percent from December and 22.5 percent from a year before.
Total textile imports for the year ending in January 2022 were 96.7 billion SME, up 42.5 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports gained 48.7 percent to 66.8 billion SME while apparel imports rose 30.5 percent to 30.0 billion SME.
