The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements has received a short supply request alleging that certain twill fabric is not available in commercial quantities in a timely manner from potential suppliers in the CAFTA-DR countries.
The subject fabric is a 100 percent polyester woven microfiber twill treated with a peach mechanical finish and a fluorocarbon-free durable water repellent chemical finish. It is primarily used in the production of protective vests for U.S. law enforcement.
The petitioner is requesting that this fabric be added to the short supply list in Annex 3.25 of CAFTA-DR in unrestricted quantities, which would allow duty-free imports of apparel made in CAFTA-DR countries with this fabric regardless of where it is sourced. Responses with an offer to supply this fabric are due no later than July 3.
If your company is interested in exploring a short supply petition under CAFTA-DR or any other U.S. free trade agreement, please contact textile and apparel practice leader Elise Shibles at (415) 490-1403 or via email.
