Background

The Department of Commerce is accepting comments through Aug. 7 on ways to modernize its export promotion services.

Through its network of trade promotion and policy professionals in 79 countries and 106 U.S. locations, the DOC’s U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service promotes U.S. exports, advances and protects U.S. commercial interests overseas, and attracts inward investment into the U.S. CS is currently reviewing its services to ensure they are designed to meet the needs of U.S. exporters and the U.S. business community in the future.

This review includes (1) resources that equip U.S. businesses with the knowledge to achieve their export objectives, such as market research by industry or country, (2) fee-based services that provide businesses with standardized or customized assistance for attracting and connecting with foreign buyers, such as business-to-business matchmaking, promotional events and campaigns, and individualized market research, (3) trade events such as trade missions and educational seminars (services offered at these events can include matchmaking, export counseling, and helping businesses expand global sales), and (4) other direct or indirect support. More information on current CS services and assistance can be found at the links provided in this notice.

As part of its review the DOC is soliciting information on what assistance would be most useful or important to businesses, what assistance is most difficult to obtain, and what assistance CS needs to provide.
