Background

Effective July 11, the Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service has increased by 90,718 metric tons raw value the amount of raw cane sugar eligible to enter the U.S. at the lower duty rate under the fiscal year 2022 tariff-rate quota. With this increase, the overall FY 2022 raw cane sugar TRQ is now 1,207,913 MTRV. Raw cane sugar under this quota must be accompanied by a certificate for quota eligibility.

In addition, all sugar entering the U.S. under the FY 2022 TRQ will be permitted to enter the U.S. customs territory through Oct. 31, a month later than the usual last entry date.

The FAS states that it will continue to closely monitor stocks, consumption, imports, and all sugar market and program variables and may make further adjustments for FY 2022 if needed.
