Background

The Drug Enforcement Administration has issued a temporary order placing five synthetic benzodiazepine substances in schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act: etizolam, flualprazolam, clonazolam, flubromazolam, and diclazepam.

This order imposes the administrative, civil, and criminal sanctions and regulatory controls applicable to schedule I substances on the importation, exportation, manufacture, distribution, reverse distribution, possession, research, conduct of instructional activities, and chemical analysis of these substances. It will be effective from July 26, 2023, until July 26, 2025.
