Meat and Poultry from the Philippines

The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued July 10 a public health alert for ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that were illegally imported from the Philippines, which is not eligible to export meat and poultry products to the U.S.

Poultry from Canada

Effective June 27 the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has removed restrictions on imports of poultry, commercial birds, ratites, avian hatching eggs, unprocessed avian products and byproducts, and certain fresh poultry products originating from or transiting zone PCZ-225 in Alberta, Canada. Zone PCZ-219 in Saskatchewan is now the only Canadian zone still subject to such restrictions.

Watermelon Imports

The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service is proposing to increase the assessment rate paid by importers of 150,000 pounds or more annually of watermelons from six cents to nine cents per hundredweight. Comments on this proposal are due no later than Aug. 8.
