Textile and Apparel Imports Fall But Shipments from India Gain

Imports of textiles and apparel fell 6.6 percent from October to November, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 9.99 billion square meter equivalents in November, down 6.6 percent from October but up 43.3 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports totaled 8.06 billion SME, down 1.9 percent from a month earlier but up 51.3 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 1.93 billion SME were down 23.1 percent for the month but up 17.5 percent from a year before.

Imports of textiles and apparel were 97.5 billion SME for the year to date in November, up 13.9 percent from the previous year. Textile imports were 73.8 billion SME, up 16.9 percent, while apparel imports totaled 23.7 billion SME, up 5.3 percent.

For the year ending in November 2024, total imports were up 13.8 percent compared to a year earlier, to 104.4 billion SME. Textile imports rose 17.2 percent to 78.9 billion SME while apparel imports were up 4.4 percent to 25.5 billion SME.
