Tariffs. H.R. 6991 (introduced Jan. 8 by Rep. Van Duyne, R-Texas) would impose additional duties on goods imported into the U.S.

The Trusted Importer and Competitive Manufacturing Act (H.R. 6914, introduced Jan. 8 by Rep. Miller, R-Ohio) would create a ten-year general import license for certified entities to pay reduced or waived tariffs on specific goods intended to strengthen the U.S. economy and secure supply chains.

Trade. S. 3608 (introduced Jan. 8 by Sen. Sheehy, R-Mont.) and H.R. 6988 (introduced Jan. 8 by Rep. Pfluger, R-Texas) would require a strategy for the expanded use of Trade Transparency Units.

Exports. H.R. 6996 (introduced Jan. 9 by Rep. Fine, R-Fla.) would facilitate the export of U.S. artificial intelligence systems, computing hardware, and standards globally.

IPR. The House Ways and Means Committee favorably reported Dec. 30 legislation (H.R. 4930) that would (1) give U.S. Customs and Border Protection explicit authority to share key information with relevant private-sector stakeholders when a shipment contains suspected counterfeit or pirated products, (2) expand the range of information that CBP is allowed to share, including images of the product and packaging of a suspected counterfeit product, and (3) allow CBP to share information with a range of parties who may be affected by the importation of illicit goods and may help CBP in determining whether the shipment is legitimate, including rights holders, ecommerce retailers, and shipping companies.
