Import Inspection Fees
The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service has delayed from Jan. 29 to March 20 the effective date of a final rule that will make the following changes to the Section 8e import inspection fee structure, which affects imports of avocados, onions, grapes, oranges, kiwifruit, tomatoes, grapefruit, filberts, and potatoes.
- changing fees for lots qualifying as a full car lot (or a whole lot) or less than a full car lot from a per-car lot basis to a per-pound basis
- reducing the fee for each additional sublot by 50 percent to $58
- establishing a new fee calculation for lots less than a car lot
Imports from Chile
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service reports that beginning March 31 Chile will send electronic certification data to FSIS for Chilean products eligible for U.S. import under FSIS jurisdiction. Once import eCert is implemented, FSIS will no longer require paper inspection certificates issued by Chile for Chilean imports. Import data from eCert will be received directly in FSIS’ Public Health Information System.
Poultry Imports
Effective Jan. 24, the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has removed restrictions on imports of poultry, commercial birds, ratites, avian hatching eggs, unprocessed avian products and byproducts, and certain fresh poultry products originating from or transiting Ehime prefecture in Japan following a determination that it is free of highly-pathogenic avian influenza.
