China. H.R. 1504 (introduced Feb. 21 by Rep. Smith, R-N.J.) would (1) withdraw normal trade relations treatment from, and apply certain provisions of title IV of the Trade Act of 1974 to, products of China and (2) expand the eligibility requirements for products of China to receive normal trade relations treatment in the future.

The U.S. Citrus Protection Act (H.R. 1507, introduced Feb. 21 by Rep. Steube, R-Fla.) would prohibit importation of commercially produced fresh citrus fruit originating from China.

AGOA. Six members of Congress wrote to President Trump Feb. 11 urging him to revoke South Africa’s benefits under the African Growth and Opportunity Act in light of “its numerous human rights abuses, its vendetta against the State of Israel, and its embrace of the Chinese Communist Party.”

Sanctions. H.R. 1486 (introduced Feb. 21 by Rep. McCormick, R-Ga.) would impose sanctions with respect to economic or industrial espionage by foreign adversarial companies.

Sporting goods. The Sporting Goods Excise Tax Modernization Act (H.R. 1494, introduced Feb. 21 by Reps. Panetta, D-Calif., and Moore, R-Utah) seeks to ensure that federal excise taxes on imported sportfishing and archery equipment are properly collected by shifting the tax responsibility from consumers to U.S. online marketplaces. 

Seafood. S. 667 (introduced Feb. 20 by Sen. Hyde-Smith, R-Miss.), would amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to provide for the inspection of foreign facilities that manufacture, process, pack, or hold shrimp for consumption in the U.S.
