Background

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is issuing monthly updates of various trade statistics. Highlights for January 2025 (compared to the previous month) include the following.

- processed more than 2.9 million entry summaries (up 3.6 percent) valued at more than $338 billion (up 16.6 percent)

- identified estimated duties of nearly $7.9 billion (up 6.8 percent) to be collected by the U.S. government

- stopped 1,986 shipments (up 41.5 percent) valued at more than $13 million (down 30.5 percent) for further examination based on the suspected use of forced labor

- seized 1,977 shipments (up 17.2 percent) that contained counterfeit goods valued at more than $291 million (up 164.5 percent)

- completed 30 audits (down 37.5 percent) that identified $71 million (up 787.5 percent) in duties and fees owed to the U.S. government

- collected over $703 million (up 35.5 percent) of this identified revenue and from previous fiscal years’ assignments
