The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service has extended from Feb. 21 to March 23 the deadline for public comments on an interim rule adding an option for the electronic submission of applications for initial inspection of fresh and processed fruits, vegetables, and other products.
AMS’s Specialty Crops Inspection Division performs inspections and other related functions on imports of regulated goods. Under this rule individuals desiring to apply for an inspection for applicable fruit, vegetable, and specialty crop imports must complete and file form SC-357, Initial Inspection Request for Regulated Imported Commodities, in writing or electronically. AMS states that amending 7 CFR 51.6 and 52.7 to allow electronic filing supports the International Trade Data System.
