The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has imposed restrictions on imports of avian commodities from the following areas as of the dates indicated due to concerns about highly-pathogenic avian influenza.
Japan
- Miyazaki prefecture (effective Nov. 22)
- Tottori prefecture (effective Dec. 2)
Canada
- zone PCZ-301 in Saskatchewan (effective Nov. 12)
- zone PCZ-302 in Ontario (effective Nov. 14)
- zone PCZ-303 in Alberta (effective Nov. 16)
- zone PCZ-304 in Quebec (effective Nov. 18)
- zone PCZ-305 in Saskatchewan (effective Nov. 14)
- zone PCZ-306 in Alberta (effective Nov. 19)
- zone PCZ-307 in Alberta (effective Nov. 21)
- zone PCZ-308 in Ontario (effective Nov. 26)
- zone PCZ-309 in British Columbia (effective Nov. 26)
- zone PCZ-310 in Ontario (effective Nov. 29)
These restrictions include the following.
- Importation of poultry, commercial birds, ratites, avian hatching eggs, unprocessed avian products and byproducts, and certain fresh poultry products is prohibited.
- Importation as cargo of processed avian products and byproducts must be accompanied by an APHIS import permit and/or government certification confirming that the goods were treated in accordance with APHIS requirements.
- Importation as cargo of fresh, unprocessed shell/table eggs and egg products, void of the shell (e.g., liquid eggs and dried egg whites) is prohibited unless they are consigned from the port of arrival directly to an APHIS-approved breaking and pasteurization facility. An import permit and/or certificate is not required in such cases.
APHIS has also removed restrictions on imports of poultry and related products originating from or transiting zones PCZ-279 in Alberta and PCZ-280 in Ontario (both effective Dec. 1) and zones PCZ-275 in Alberta, PCZ-277 in Saskatchewan, PCZ-283 in Quebec, PCZ-284 in Quebec, and PCZ-287 in Alberta (all effective Dec. 3) that had been imposed due to concerns about HPAI.
