U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a new withhold release order that, effective Dec. 20, requires the detention at all U.S. ports of entry of disposable gloves produced in Malaysia by a group of companies collectively known as Brightway Group (Brightway Holdings Sdn Bhd, Laglove (M) Sdn Bhd, and Biopro (M) Sdn Bhd).
According to CBP, this order is based on information that reasonably indicates that Brightway Group production facilities utilize forced labor, including 10 of the 11 International Labor Organization indicators of forced labor.
Importers of detained shipments will have an opportunity to export their shipments or submit proof to CBP that they were not produced with forced labor.
