Background

The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has determined that the application of one or more phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via imports of fresh pummelo fruit from Vietnam. Comments on this determination are due no later than Feb. 25.

Separately, APHIS is considering requests to authorize the importation of the following products.

- blackberry and raspberry in vitro and standard plants grown in approved media for planting from Chile into the U.S. and territories

- potato mini tubers from the United Kingdom into the U.S. and territories

APHIS has drafted pest risk assessments that list the potential pests likely to remain on these commodities upon importation if no mitigation is applied. Comments on these assessments, including information that might lead APHIS to revise its assessments before identifying pest mitigations and proceeding with the commodity import approval process, are due by Feb. 1.
