Background

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a final rule amending the existing import restrictions on archaeological materials from Egypt and imposing import restrictions on ethnological materials from Egypt. Specifically, this rule adds and revises categories of archaeological material ranging in date from about 300,000 BC to 1750 AD and includes certain ethnological material ranging from 1517 to 1914 AD. These restrictions will remain in effect through Nov. 30, 2026.

CBP has issued a separate final rule extending the import restrictions on archaeological and ethnological material from Bolivia through Dec. 4, 2026.

Details on the goods covered by these restrictions are available here.
