Background

The State Department has announced the following actions regarding current or new U.S. import restrictions on archaeological and ethnological materials:

- a proposal has been issued to extend the current memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Colombian governments concerning the imposition of import restrictions on categories of archaeological and ethnological material of Colombia;

- a proposal has been issued to extend the current MoU between the U.S. and Turkish governments concerning the imposition of import restrictions on categories of archaeological and ethnological material of Turkey;

- a proposal has been issued to extend the emergency import restrictions imposed by the U.S. on archaeological and ethnological material from Afghanistan; and

- the U.S. has received a request from Cameroon to establish U.S. import restrictions on archaeological and ethnological materials representing Cameroon’s cultural patrimony.
