Background

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced July 29 the completion of two new inbound commercial lanes and two new exit commercial inspection booths, including all related infrastructure and technologies, at the Pharr, Texas, land port of entry. CBP expects that the former will increase the port’s ability to inspect imports transported by semi-trailer and truck vehicles while the latter will direct traffic to the new border safety inspection facility once it is completed in the coming months.

“As imports from Mexico continue to increase, having these additional spaces and improvements will have a significant positive impact on our ability to expedite shipments to get them into U.S. commerce,” said Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port Director Carlos Rodriguez.

The project was completed under the Donations Acceptance Program, which allows CBP to accept donations of real property, personal property (including monetary donations), and non-personal services from private-sector and government entities for port of entry construction, alterations, operations, and maintenance activities.
