Background

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced that the next semi-annual examination for individual customs broker licenses will be held Oct. 25. Registration to participate in this exam opened Aug. 14 and will close Sept. 12.

The broker license exam consists of 80 multiple-choice questions and a score of 75 percent is required to pass. Exam topics typically include entry, classification, trade agreements, valuation, broker compliance, power of attorney, marking, drawback, bonds, foreign-trade zones, warehouse entries, intellectual property rights, fines, penalties, and forfeitures, and other subjects pertinent to a broker’s duties.

CBP is offering both a remote proctored exam delivery option and an in-person testing option for the October exam. The remote option will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis to a limited number of examinees.

CBP adds that beginning with this exam each question will have four possible answers rather than five.

More information on the exam and the testing options is available here.
