Poultry Imports
The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has imposed import restrictions on poultry products from Liberia, retroactive to Feb. 3, based on the confirmation date of the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza in that country.
- imports of poultry, commercial birds, ratites, and avian hatching eggs are prohibited
- imports of unprocessed avian products and byproducts (including eggs and egg products; meat; and hunter harvested, non-fully finished avian trophies), if arriving as cargo, are prohibited with limited exceptions
- imports of fresh, unprocessed shell/table eggs and egg products, void of the shell (e.g., liquid eggs and dried egg whites), arriving as cargo are prohibited unless they are consigned from the port of arrival directly to an APHIS-approved breaking and pasteurization facility
- processed avian products and byproducts (including eggs and egg products), if arriving as cargo, must be accompanied by an APHIS import permit and/or government certification confirming that the goods were treated in accordance with APHIS requirements
Wasabi from Indonesia
APHIS has announced that imports of fresh rhizomes of wasabi from Indonesia may be authorized beginning April 23 following its determination that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via such imports.
