The auto industry is assessing the impact of the President's proclamation yesterday imposing a 25% tariff on imported cars, light trucks, and certain vehicle parts under Section 232, citing national security grounds. The 25% tariffs are set to take effect on April 3, 2025, for automobiles and light trucks with auto parts delayed until no later than May 3, 2025.
