Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., announced today the addition of Will Sjoberg as a member of the firm and Gregory Stanczyk as an auditor. Sjoberg brings additional experience to ST&R’s well-recognized capabilities in helping companies with trade remedies and related issues, while Stanczyk’s long tenure with U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Trade Regulatory Audit will be a valuable asset to companies dealing with CBP enforcement/audit issues.
“The number of antidumping and countervailing duties the U.S. is enforcing has more than doubled over the past decade, and the government is continuing to devise strategies to further increase AD and CV duty rates,” said Kristen Smith, who heads ST&R’s Trade Remedies Practice and serves as a partner on its Advisory Committee. “And the Section 301 tariffs on imports from China, plus the Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum product imports, aren’t going away anytime soon. Will knows these issues inside and out and will be a valuable resource for our clients as these challenges continue to evolve.”
“From traditional concerns like classification and valuation to emerging issues like forced labor, companies have more laws and regulations to comply with than ever before,” added Daryl Moore, Customs Audits and Partnership Programs Leader with ST&R. “Consequently, we’ve seen a continued evolution in the number, type, and complexity of reviews and audits CBP conducts against importers and exporters. Gregory’s in-depth knowledge of the CBP process will help us continue to offer top-notch assistance to our clients as they deal with this ever-changing environment.”
Mr. Sjoberg has more than 30 years’ experience as an international trade and customs attorney, with particular expertise in antidumping and countervailing duty law, especially helping importers minimize or avoid AD/CV duty liability. He has additional expertise in guiding businesses through Section 201, Section 232, and Section 301 proceedings, as well as other customs matters.
Mr. Stanczyk served for about 15 years as a CBP regulatory auditor, where his work included conducting different types of complex audits on import and export issues, including classification, value, reconciliation, free trade agreements, and antidumping and countervailing duties. He also evaluated companies’ customs compliance programs and procedures to identify compliance risks and internal control deficiencies. He later served as a data analytics auditor where, among other things, he served as a subject matter expert in the extraction and manipulation of CBP import and export transactions as well as commercial business and enforcement information.
