Tariffs. The Tariff Transparency Act (S. 959, introduced March 11 by Sen. Alsobrooks, D-Md.) would require the International Trade Commission to conduct an investigation and submit a report on the impact on U.S. businesses of duties and the threat of duties on imports from Mexico and Canada.
S.J.Res. 37 (introduced March 11 by Sen. Kaine, D-Va.) would terminate the national emergency declared to impose duties on imports from Canada.
The Pink Tariffs Study Act (H.R. 2047, introduced March 11 by Rep. Fletcher, D-Texas) would require a study on the manner and extent to which U.S. import tariff rates are regressive or demonstrate a gender bias.
The Medical Supply Chain Resiliency Act (S. 998, introduced March 12 by Sens. Tillis, R-N.C., and Coons, D-Del.) would authorize the president to enter into trade agreements for the reciprocal elimination of duties or other import restrictions with respect to medical goods.
Customs. The Customs Facilitation Act (S. 956, introduced March 11 by Sens. Cassidy, R-La., and Cortez Masto, D-Nev.) would facilitate the entry and processing of merchandise and trade enforcement. Click here for more information.
China. S. 947 (introduced March 11 by Sen. Scott, R-Fla.) would prohibit the importation of commercially-produced fresh citrus fruit originating from China.
The Foreign Investment Guardrails to Help Thwart China Act (S. 1053, introduced March 13 by Sens. Cornyn, R-Texas, and Cortez Masto, D-Nev.) would (1) permit the Treasury Department to prohibit U.S. investments in certain technologies in China, including certain artificial intelligence models, quantum computers, materials used in hypersonic systems, and other military technologies, (2) require U.S. entities to notify Treasury of investments in certain AI models in China, and (3) permit Treasury to impose sanctions under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act against Chinese entities that engage with the Chinese military and intelligence sectors.
Imports. S. 952 (introduced March 11 by Sen. Cassidy, R-La.) would amend the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S. to provide a uniform eight-digit subheading number for all whiskies.
Exports. The Stand Up for Sudan Act (S. 935, introduced March 11 by Sen. Van Hollen, D-Md., and H.R. 2059, introduced March 11 by Rep. Jacobs, D-Calif.) would prohibit the sale or authorization of licenses for the export of certain major defense articles covered under the Arms Export Control Act to the United Arab Emirates until the president certifies that the UAE is not providing materiel support to the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan.
S. 1035 (introduced March 13 by Sen. Sullivan, R-Alaska) would prohibit certain exports of natural gas produced or refined in the U.S.
