Background

In the Dec. 30, 2020, Customs Bulletin and Decisions, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is proposing to reclassify wine cooler display cabinets as furniture for storage and display incorporating refrigerating or freezing equipment under HTSUS 8418.50.00 (duty-free) rather than as other refrigerating or freezing equipment under HTSUS 8418.69.0180 (duty-free).

CBP states that the subject item employs a thermoelectric cooling system and is designed to store up to 12 wine bottles in horizontal and standing positions. It features slide-out shelves, a curved glass door, an interior light, and an LED digital display. CBP states that as this item is a counter-top cabinet that stores, displays, and refrigerates wine bottles, classification is proper under subheading 8418.50.

Ruling NY N300132 would be revoked to reflect this change. Comments are due by Jan. 29.
