Trump “not interested” in reopening China trade deal after report of Beijing discontent

“Trump, who has blamed China’s early handling of the new coronavirus outbreak in its central city of Wuhan for thousands of U.S. deaths and millions of job losses, said last week he was ‘very torn’ about whether to end the Phase 1 trade deal. Those comments came just hours after top trade officials from both countries pledged to press ahead with implementing the agreement.”

China’s purchases of U.S. goods will fall short of phase one trade deal

“The American think tank projected that exports of U.S. goods to China could come in at only $60 billion for all of 2020 — much lower than the $186.6 billion needed to meet requirements in the agreement that both countries signed in January.”

U.S. could reinstate GSP trade benefits for India

“The Donald Trump administration is likely to reinstate trade benefits for certain Indian imports under its Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) as a gesture of gratitude for the Narendra Modi government’s decision to send hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and paracetamol to the US amid the Covid-19 pandemic, ThePrint has learnt.”
