Imports of textiles and apparel continued to decline in October, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.

Overall Imports. Textile and apparel imports totaled 7.81 billion square meter equivalents in October 2022, down 11.5 percent from September and 12.4 percent from October 2021. Textile imports totaled 5.60 billion SME, down 8.8 percent for the month and 7.5 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.21 billion SME fell 17.5 percent from September and 22.7 percent from a year before.
Total year-to-date imports were 92.8 billion SME, up 21.7 percent from the previous year, as textile imports gained 26.2 percent to 65.4 billion SME and apparel imports rose 12.3 percent to 27.4 billion SME.
Total imports for the year ending in October 2022 were 110.9 billion SME, up 24.0 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports gained 28.4 percent to 78.4 billion SME while apparel imports rose 14.6 percent to 32.5 billion SME.
